Dave Matcham

Chief Executive

Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII)
Chartered Insurance Practitioner

Dave started his career in insurance in 1980 with the Institute of London Underwriters (ILU) in its aviation department. He then spent three years in reinsurance treaty before transferring to the ILU’s London operation to act as manager of market secretariat services to the joint marine committees. Dave was promoted to a directorial position within the ILU in 1993 and became Director of Operations following the Institute’s merger with LIRMA to become the IUA in 1998. A fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and Member of the Board of London Market Faculty, he took over as Chief Executive of the IUA in March 2005.

Paul Hodge

Director of Finance

Paul joined the IUA in 2016 and and is responsible for the overall management of the association's accounting functions.

Aaron Perry

Receptionist/Office Administrator

Aaron joined the IUA in 2020 and and is the point of contact for all general enquiries to the association. He assists with the arrangement of IUA committee meetings and provides general office support.

Nicola Yuill

Executive Manager

After 20 years of Executive Assistant experience from an extensive career in the banking sector, Nicky joined the IUA in January 2019, supporting Dave Matcham in his role as IUA Chief Executive. She is actively involved with the International Union of Marine Insurance Facts and Figures Committee. Nicky is also Chair of the IUA EA (Executive Assistants) Group which she formed in 2020. This group now has in execess of 60 members and acts as a networking platform for EAs, personal assistants and secretarial staff working in the London insurance market.

Scott Farley

Director of Communications

NCTJ National Certificate Examination in Journalism

Scott began his career as a journalist, working on regional newspapers in south London and Norfolk before joining the editorial staff of Insurance Day as a Senior Reporter. He was Press and Communications Manager for the online reinsurance trading platform Inreon and then joined the IUA in 2003.

Deborah Finch

Events Manager

Deborah began her insurance career as an underwriting assistant with the Wurttembergische (previously The Folgate) before joining Nelson Hurst insurance Brokers as a secretary to the directors of the Non-Marine South American Division. She has also worked in marketing and as PA to the European director of an American-based magazine. Deborah joined the IUA in 2004.

Burcin Demirel

Following completion of a Masters degree in Geophysical Hazards and previous experience working in financial services Burcin started her insurance career by joining the IUA in 2011. Her responsibilities include producing new market statistics reports and analysis, as well as managing and monitoring the association’s member contact database and engagement analytics.

Louise Day

Chief Operating Officer

Louise Day is Director of Operations at the IUA and has over 20 years’ experience delivering change management projects at a senior level across the London Market and wider financial services sector. Louise joined the IUA in 2015 to oversee company market involvement in market modernisation and has since been involved in many major initiatives, including the e-placing platform PPL and other projects under the London Market Target Operating Model. She is a non-executive director of London Insurance Market Operations & Strategic Sourcing (LIMOSS). Louise is also a member of the inclusion@Lloyd’s committee and a dedicated supporter of London Market diversity and inclusion campaigns. Louise has been involved in project delivery throughout her career and has additional experience of managed service delivery. She has worked for London market insurers for 11 years and her current role also involves promoting talent and diversity initiatives across the sector.

Office Manager and Personal Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer

Lydia joined the IUA in 2017 and is now responsible for overseeing everyday management and operation of the IUA office, whilst supporting the Chief Operating Officer in key projects.

Kim has over 20 years experience in the insurance industry, working for both broker and carrier organisations. She began her career focusing on claims and is now responsible for promoting IUA member interests across a wide range of market digital transformation projects.

Chris Jones

Director of Legal, Underwriting and Claims

Associate of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ACIS)

Following completion of a Masters degree in business law, Chris started his career in the insurance industry in 2000 and is currently the IUA’s Director of Legal and Market Services. This entails overall responsibility for the association's underwriting and claims committee output across all non-life insurance and reinsurance classes of insurance. Chris also works with IUA member company compliance practitioners on meeting their regulatory and legislative requirements and is a qualified Company Secretary.

Joe joined the IUA in 2013, working across the association’s Public Policy, Underwriting and Claims teams. He was appointed a Senior Market Services Executive in September 2020 and currently provides support to a number of London insurance market committees. Joe represents the IUA on general liability and delegated authority issues.

Tom joined the IUA in 2014 and gained experience across the organisation before taking a permanent role within the Underwriting and Claims team. Jonathan Reed

Underwriting and Claims Executive

After studying Geography with Chinese Studies at the University of Nottingham, Jonathan began his career in the insurance industry in 2019, as an IUA Market Services Technician, supporting our member committees. He now leads the association's work in a number of specialist areas, which include providing secretariat services for professional and financial lines underwriting and claims committees. Additional responsibilities cover developing technologies and property re/insurance.

Henry graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2022 with a Master of Arts in Politics which included a dissertation studying the impact of big data and artificial intelligence on political systems and society. Prior to joining the IUA he worked at Hestia Capital, focusing on legal, insurance and regulatory risk.

Helen Dalziel

Director of Public Policy

Helen started her career in 1989 with a regional general insurance broker and has spent 23 years in the general insurance broking industry. During this time she has worked in various roles including sales, departmental manager, project manager, operations, finance and training. Helen has completed an honours degree and the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Diploma in Insurance. She has been involved in compliance since 2004 and, following an acquisition by a national retail/wholesale & Lloyd’s broker, relocated to the City in 2010 working as part of the compliance team. She joined the IUA in November 2012 as a Market Services Executive.

Legal Services Executive

Nafisah, a lawyer and experienced regulatory risk consultant with a demonstrated history of working in the insurance industry building strong working relationships with senior stakeholders including influence, advice and support to key decision makers. Having come from an in-house regulatory background she joined the IUA in 2020 as a Legal Executive. She works in the Legal and Regulatory team servicing the association's work in respect of international and government affairs and looks after the IUA Legal & Regulatory, Compliance, Indirect Tax and Prudential committees.

Madeleine Fox

Legal Services Executive

After studying Psychology at UC Berkeley and Law at the University of Oxford, Madeleine began her career working for the Government of Bermuda Cabinet Office and London Office on public policy matters. Alongside this, she worked as an education and admissions consultant for a charity helping disadvantaged students gain admission to Oxford and Cambridge. She joined the IUA as a Legal Services Executive in April 2020.

Robyn Barnes

Legal Services Executive

Robyn stared her career as an insurance clerk in the renewals department at BG Insurance before moving onto become and underwriters assistant at Hardy Underwriting, in the Cargo and Specie team, and then at Navigators Underwriting in their Marine Liability team. In 2014 she joined Marsh McLennan as the account manager for the Bowring Terrorism Quota Share Facility. In 2018 she became a Legal Services Executive working within the Legal and Regulatory Department of the IUA.
