Supply Chain Risk in the Cyber Insurance Market

In October 2023 the IUA's Cyber Underwriting Group, in association with CyberCube, published a research paper designed to help insurers, brokers and clients obtain a greater understanding of the exposures involved in cyber supply chain risk. It examines the rise of cyber risk accumulation events and the need for (re)insurers to pay attention to Single Points of Failure. The research also includes a number of case studies highlighting the impacts on supply chains of various cyber attacks. Each case study lists key lessons learned and discusses how losses can be modelled for the threat in question. Regulatory approaches to cyber modelling are addressed, including points raised by the Prudential Regulatory Authority’s Insurance Stress Test exercise, and there is a debate on the reasons for diverging approaches of different cyber loss models. The report may be freely downloaded below and is accompanied by a media release .

Entitled ‘Cyber Risks and Insurance – an introduction to cross class liabilities’, the paper is an analysis of whether and how conventional lines of insurance might provide cover in respect of the ever-expanding scope of cyber risk which is now faced by organisations in a broad range of locations and industry sectors. It is available to download via the link below.
