In today's property insurance landscape, underwriting properties exposed to wildfire presents a significant challenge. As the frequency and intensity of wildfires continue to rise, insurers face mounting pressure to accurately assess and mitigate wildfire exposed properties.

At this training session, our guest speakers will highlight the key aspects of wildfire risk underwriting and mitigation. Attendees will gain an insight into critical fire weather, fuels, topography, and mitigation strategies, including NFPA guidelines for structural hardening and vegetation management.

The session will be led by a former wildland firefighter who battled countless wildfires over a 10+ year career in the fire service and will offer practical mitigation strategies.

Our Speakers:
Paul Brady
(Head of Wildfire Insights and Mitigation) spent 15+ years fighting wildfires within the USFS and private sector. For most of his firefighting years, he was a Hotshot on multiple Interagency Hotshot Crews. During this time, he fought wildfires throughout the western United States. He spent time studying the science behind wildfires, then transitioned to the insurance industry with AIG. Paul served as the loss control subject matter expert on wildfire evaluation and mitigation within the Private Client Group and Commercial lines. He implemented the Commercial Wildfire framework as the first wildfire expert in the AIG Programs Division and led the evaluation of wildfire models.

Gary Raphael (Head of Risk Mitigation Strategy) has more than three decades of hands-on risk mitigation experience, with a particular emphasis on helping high-net-worth families and property owners proactively assess and manage catastrophic risk. His extensive background includes expertise in vulnerability assessment, loss prevention, property valuation, and claims management. As a senior executive at three industry leading insurance carriers, AIG Private Client Group, Fireman’s Fund and ACE Private Risk Services, he established a reputation for implementing high-touch risk management programs and delivering groundbreaking solutions to policyholders. These solutions earned him insurance industry recognition and awards.

Brian Bastian (Head of Product) has spent over 10 years in the reinsurance space building catastrophe risk evaluation tools, products and services within Guy Carpenter, JLT Re and Perspecta. A meteorologist and systems engineer by education, Brian worked largely in a natural peril advisory and exposure management role advising carriers and MGAs on their catastrophe risk underwriting, claims and portfolio management approaches.
